The third card, in the Major Arcana, is the High Priestess. So, here we encounter the lady of mystery within these Trumps. She, who holds knowledge and wisdom, looked in the glare of her eyes. So begins chapter three of the Tarot.

The High Priestess sits between the two pillars representing knowledge and the years of growth in wisdom. There is a crown on her head and a crescent moon at her feet. In her arms she carries a scroll, which reads TORA and her robes the color blue, a color of spiritual knowledge. In other versions of the card, she may be seen holding an opened book.

So in this way the book or the scroll can represent knowledge learned or wisdom gained for our experience. They can also represent, a higher intuition of things to come and the growth one makes to reach good judgment.

The High Priestess, can also being us a sense of mystery, a cloaked veil that we must learn to venture beyond it. Example of this would be that we have been afraid to make a change in our lives, and the veil represent the possible outcome, if we move pass the veil, fear in this example. It’s the time when we must trust in ourselves, to meet the High Priestess head on with courage and strength.

Though, the High Priestess has many positive aspects to her, there is also you negative side. This side can come to be seen as a lack of common sense in decisions that one makes. Ignorance in dealing with the subject at hand, giving false information, or assuming something is the truth when it is not.

The two pillars within the High Priestess card show a need for balance. One black, one white these two pillars give off the sense that we must keep the forces in our lives in check. Making sure that one force doesn’t dominate the other, as a reminder that harmony moves us forward, while an imbalance forces us to take steps back.

This view of balance is also reflected in the number assigned to the High Priestess, that of the number- Two. For the number two represents the concepts of balance, harmony, and learning to understand both sides. Negatively though the number two, could me that we are trying to grasp an understand that is beyond our reach at this time or that things in life have cause use to lose our sense of balance and have let our moods changed in a different direction.
